Kiwanians Turn Out for Corning Achievement Career Day.
Our Kiwanis Club of Memphis had a great Kiwanis presence at the Corning Career Day recently. Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders rotated among professionals to learn more about potential careers and what it takes to get there. Judith Black from St. Jude Research Hospital (shown above) and her pictures of cells viewed with 3D glasses were very popular. Joey Hagan of Architecture Incorporated showed the students models of homes and talked about building designing and building them. MLGW's Jerry Collins had two of his best engineers explaining electricity and the available careers in power industry. News Channel 3 Ron Walter sent anchor/reporter Stephanie Scurlock and photogrpaher Ben Short to talk with the children. Ms. Scurlock talked with the children about the importance of reading, keeping up with current events and staying focused on their goals. Representatives from Chuck Brady's Memphis Zoo were there to talk about animals and plants; their table was one of the most popular. Attorney Karen Campbell was there to discuss careers in the law and Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Janice Holder and the Administrative Office of the Courts provided materials to hand out. Thanks to everyone who made the project a success !
